The African National Congress Youth League has said they do not want Prophet T.B. Joshua, General Overseer of the Synagogue of All Nations (SCOAN) to be allowed into South Africa.

Their reaction follows Joshua’s announcement on Sunday, to visit the country once every month in memory of those who lost their lives in the tragic collapse of a guest house belonging to the church on September 12.

In a statement by its spokesman, Bandile Masuku, the group said they would make sure such trip never comes to pass.

Stressing that Joshua would not be welcomed, the youth wing of the party further warned the South African government not to issue a visa to him if he applies for such, Punch reports.

The ANC youths said: “T.B. Joshua should not be allowed to come to South Africa until we know what happened to our fellow countrymen at his church.

“We will make sure we engage with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation to make sure they do not issue him with a South African visa.”


About 350 South Africans were believed to be visiting the Synagogue church in the Ikotun neighbourhood of Lagos, at the .

About 115 people were said to have lost their lives in the Synagogue collapse and out of that number, 84 were reportedly South Africans.

The prophet had described those who lost their lives as martyrs.

Meanwhile, the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Lulu Mnguni has disclosed that to fast track the release of the 84 corpses of South Africans at the Isolo General Hospital morgue in Lagos, the South African forensic team yesterday began collecting the fingerprints and DNA samples that would aid investigations.

He said finger prints and the DNA samples were expected to be sent to Pretoria tomorrow to help confirm the identity of the South Africans who died.

T.B. Joshua is one of the popular pastors in Nigeria and he is referred to by followers across the world as “The Prophet” or “The Man of God”.

Following the collapse, T.B. Joshua issued a condolence message to the families of those who lost their lives, especially the South Africans.

A South African opposition party, Democratic Alliance has however threatened to sue the prophet over the deaths of some of its nationals at the church building collapse.
